happiness advantage experiment – 7

This post and a few to follow are inspired by Shawn Achor and his TED presentation on the Happy secret to better work.

I am grateful for Frittatas. Sure, you might think that it is silly to be thankful  for a food item (you tried to come up with 63 things to be thankful for) but when you are trying to stay away from processed foods it takes time. I wake up early in the morning so that I can exercise and have time to cook (and not just throw some frozen sandwich or toast some low nutrient bagel in the toaster) my breakfast. The frittata is so simple to make and you can use just about any protein and veggies to make it, as long as you have some good eggs. Pictured above is this morning’s frittata perfection.

I am grateful for my heritage. My father is from Joliet, Illinois and he was in the Air Force and was stationed in Panama. While in Panama he met my mother and about 3 years later I was born. I was born in the canal zone (which is US Territory) of Panama. It makes for an interesting story, to be born somewhere overseas. I love that I always have a tan.

I am grateful for my mind. I get frustrated very easy sometimes when I work on school work. Especially the class that just ended. It was called Financial Management and it dealt with accounting, rations, equations, blah, poo, gross, and puke. I am thankful that I survived the class and that although I do not enjoy those types of classes I have the mind to at the very least survive. Now, I may be singing a different tune with the next class, Data Analysis.

Today I ran 4 miles. It was 36 degrees out this morning so I opted to run on the treadmill. Last Sunday for my long run day I ran 13 miles. The previously Sunday I ran 16 so according to my running plan I need to scale down.

I have been able to meditate a couple of times by just breathing and attempting to clear my mind…a relatively easy task. It felt relaxing and I want to continue this practice to further dig into the benefits of meditation.

My latest random act of kindness was very subtle and I am not sure the person even knew about it (I wonder if that gives it less impact). I was faced with a situation where I would normally react with a very negative attitude. This would have been evident to the person on the receiving end. In this particular situation I decided to maintain a positive attitude. I believe this helped my mood for the day and did not put any stress on the other person.
